How to sit
Comfort first. A position you can stay in without thinking about it is the right one.
In a chair
- Feet flat on the floor.
- Back against the chair, or sitting forward a little, whichever is easier.
- Hands resting on your legs.
Lying down
- On your back, with a pillow under your knees if your lower back aches.
- You may fall asleep. For the bedtime practices, that's the idea.
Walking
- Slower than usual, in a room, a hallway or a quiet path.
- Good for days when sitting still is too much. See Walking slowly.
Eyes
Open or closed, both are fine. Eyes open, resting on one spot on the floor, often feels safer, and it's easier to stay awake.
Moving
If you need to shift, scratch, rock or fidget, do. Moving doesn't spoil anything.
